Screening
Many patients are not aware that cancer may develop within the oral cavity. This location is, however, not rare. What makes it even worse, prognosis in these cases is bad.
The only Chance for successful treatment is early diagnosis and radical removal of the cancer lesion. If disease is diagnosed early enough and treatment is initiated immediately, the chance for recovery is almost 100%.
That is why regular dental check-ups are so important, and it is vital that the patient should report to the dentist if he/she spots even the smallest lesions within oral mucosa.
Screening is particularly indicated in patients who:
- Are older than 40,
- smoke,
- are alcohol addicts,
- like spicy food,
- whose lifestyle is not healthy,
- are at risk of contracting HPV virus (HPV 16),
- have cancer running in the family.
Comprehensive diagnostics concerning oral cancer makes it possible to commence treatment at an appropriately early stage and to end the fight with the disease successfully.
