The oncological stage of the surgery is similar (radical removal of the cancer tissue) and the space is filled with tissue transferred from other body regions. Usually, breasts are most often reconstructed with tissue from the lower abdomen (TRAM) or from the back (LD). A pedicled flap of skin, fat and muscle is used for the procedure.
The use of subcutaneous fatty tissue for reconstruction means that the reconstructed breast has the shape and consistency similar to the natural breast.
