Indications and contraindications
- tumour in the urinary bladder confirmed on an ultrasound scan, tomography or cystoscopy.
- significant coagulopathy (blood clotting disorders).
This is an endoscopic procedure during which pathological lesions are removed from the bladder with the use of a resectoscope. The removed tissue is sent for histopathology tests for microscopic evaluation.
Your eligibility for the procedure will be evaluated by a specialist in urology on the basis of your medical history, imaging tests (ultrasound, CT, MRI) or on the basis of cystoscopy.
The procedure is performed under local or general anaesthesia. A resectoscope is introduced into the bladder through the urethra and abnormal tumour tissue is removed.
After the procedure a Foley catheter is left in the urethra for irrigation.
